Pastor’s Corner –Membership Anyone?
Rev. Tom Newman
In a few days I will begin teaching the Basic Concepts classes, a task I dearly love. I love to talk about the origins of the church, our founders and our connection with the other Metaphysical movements in the U.S. I also enjoy talking about the Spirit guides and teachers, the spiritual laws and all the concepts of our religion and philosophy. The Basic Concepts classes are a prerequisite for anyone who has a desire to become a member of the church.
Membership is important for an organization to remain vibrant and alive. When people join the church, they are making a commitment to help out whenever possible and to support the church with their time and resources to the best of their abilities. The church also makes a commitment to them giving them the ability to vote on the business affairs of the organization and a priority in receiving counseling and other Pastoral services.
The most significant reason to be a member of the SOM is the opportunity to help keep the church as a viable Centerof Light. Spirit has told us that the SOM is a Centerof Lightand that there are about 50 such centers in the world. We are soon to complete our 59th year as an organization. Benu, the Archangel Gabriel, recently said in a reading that the SOM is a 10 out of 10 on the scale of spiritual truth and value. I think these are two awesome testimonials to the role the church has played in bringing forth the teachings of Spiritual Truth that have been taught by all religions and Master Teachers.
So many who embark upon the journey of awakening to the energy of their soul and the higher realities of life, ask “what can I do to make a difference on the Earth plane?” and “How can I help others in life?” One answer to these questions for those who live in this area, is to become a member of the Shrine of the Master Church, support it with your time, input, resources and love. Be there at the services and functions to join in fellowship with other like-minded people. Help to make the church a better place for your having been there and you will find that you are helped beyond your wildest imagination. This is how the Spiritual Law works and this is a rare opportunity that few are afforded.
The Yoda of Yoga
Alessandro DeNino, the gifted soloist, is teaching two yoga classes in Flexer Hall on Monday & Thursdays nights from 5:45 pmto 7:15 pm. The fee is $10 per class or 5 classes for $40. Flyers are in the Vestibule.
SarasotaNaturally
Natural Awakenings Magazine is sponsoring “Sarasota Naturally” on November 1, 2008from 7 amto 4 pm. This is Natural Awakenings Magazine coming alive in downtown Sarasota. Main Streetfrom Lemon Ave(site of the Farmer’s Market) west to Five Points will be blocked off and vendors will have booths along the streets. Health Practioners, churches, spiritual centers and small businesses of all kinds will have booths to reach the public with their products and services.
The Shrine of the Master will have a booth at this event to help promote the church. A banner has been made and packets of information about the church are being put together. Volunteers are needed to work in two hour shifts to stand at the booth to answer questions about the church. We are interested in having two people per shift. A sign-up sheet will be in the vestibule shortly. This is a great way to help promote Metaphysical Christianity! See Rev. Tom or Rev. Tim for more information.
Basic Concepts Classes
The Basic Concepts of Metaphysical Christianity classes will be held on the Tuesday nights of October 7, 14 and 21 from 7:30 pmto 9 pm. Additional topics include the history of the Metaphysical Christianity, the Spiritual Laws, the nature of God, the purpose of life, healing and the guidance of Spirit teachers. All three classes are a prerequisite for church membership. The classes will be taught by Rev. Tom in the EducationCenter. There is no fee.

News from the BambooGarden
Rev. Tim Dudley
At the end of September I experienced two events that really brought home to me the importance of rising above negativity and keeping positive, while trusting the inspiration from spirit.
We are all aware that the media does at times tend to focus on the negative and at the same time create a uncertainty and worry about current events. This is particularly prominent at this time with the economic climate and all the activity in the political arena.
I endeavor to keep up with news and current events domestically and globally and also try to view things from the glass half full perspective, rather that the glass half empty. Now that can be much easier when the potential of the event, does not affect you directly. The story can change perspective when it does; therein lies the challenge and lesson.
In the space of a few days I discovered that not one, but two of the banks I do business with were being taken over. It would have been very easy to have moved into the glass half empty mode and imagine cracks forming in the glass, to leak out the remaining liquid. In both events I received a very strong feeling of calm and the impression that all would be well.
On my next visit to my bank, I discovered that the take over, though causing great change, would end up creating many additional benefits. The future prospects were far brighter than had been presented in the media.
It has been demonstrated to me many times, that when there is uncertainty or there is a serious question to be addressed, it is best to pause, step back and connect with your guides and teachers. It is this connection to the spiritual dimension and the God Power, that will always point the way to a positive outcome.

Both Services!
A Project of Significant Proportion
One of our founders, Rev. Dorothy Flexer, was a trumpet medium. This is a rare form of physical mediumship that Rev. Dorothy developed during her life. Spirit guides and teachers were able to speak independently of her vocal cords and bring forth wisdom and understanding to life’s questions, large and small. Two and sometimes three classes with Spirit were held each week and for the last 20 years of her life, these classes were recorded on cassette tapes. The teachings on these tapes is irreplaceable.
The CMC Board of Directors embarked on a mission in 2007 to have these recordings transferred to CD which will preserve their life for many years to come. Each tape is approximately 1 to 1 ½ hours long and must be copied in real time. Our goal is to listen to these tapes and write down the topics and names of the speakers for future transcriptions. With hundreds of tapes, this is a major project and we need a few people who would be dedicated to helping with the transfers. If interested, please speak to Rev. Tim or Rev. Tom.

Your Help Is Needed
Non-profit organizations often have more to do than the employees have time and thus rely on volunteers to help out. The Shrine of the Master has several tasks to be adopted out and sponsored. Some of these tasks are as follows:
Librarian – Needed to follow up on overdue books
Office Assistant – To preparing visitor packets and other tasks
Auxiliary Chairman – To coordinate volunteers to help with dinners and coffee hours
Cub Reporters – People are needed to gather news for our monthly newsletter
Davis Hall Kitchen Coordinator – Needed to help organize and order the kitchen consumable supplies
Auxiliary Members – To help with dinners, parties and coffee hours
If you would like to volunteer some time to these tasks or others, please see Board President Tim Dudley or Vice President Kathy Curtin.
