August 2010 Newsletter

                                              The Pastor‘s Corner
Greetings Friends!
The first Sunday of August we will take into membership another person who has found a spiritual home at the Shrine of the Master Church.  This is the 12th new member this year.  Also this Sunday, we will award four Healing Certificates to individuals who have completed all the requirements for this program.  Two other individuals received their Healing Certificates in May.  Both of these activities are signs of a healthy and spiritually progressive church community.

I just got off the phone with an international medium from New Zealand who has heard of the Shrine of the Master in his travels and is interested in coming here in November 2010 to teach for a week.  Once we finalize his schedule, we’ll publish it so people can plan accordingly.  Two other mediums from England have also expressed an interest in teaching at the SOM in 2011.  The word is getting out internationally about our Center of Light and the supportive and strong community of people associated with it.

While speaking to the teacher from New Zealand, I mentioned that our primary focus at our church was to teach people the spiritual truths of life which will serve as tools for their spiritual toolbox.  We believe that the purpose of all phenomena – mental and physical including healing, while important on their own, is to reinforce the philosophy of truth. Our teachings are based upon the teachings of spiritual truth as taught by the Masters of humankind such as Jesus, Moses, Buddha, Gandhi, Mohammad, Confucius and others.  No one has a corner on truth; it exists everywhere and is for everyone.

The term “Center of Light” was given to us by Spirit to describe the church and its congregation.  Each of us is a light in the center and our actions, thoughts and dedication of service determine how brightly our lights glow.  Let us continue to let our lights guide others out of the darkness of ignorance and fear that many live in each day.  There can be fewer joys that will compare to the feeling of having helped someone to find their way on this pathway of life.

Blessings and Peace,
Rev. Tom

SOM Board News

This month the Board met with Jonathan Moore from Ameriprise to review the current status of the SOM‘s investments.  Even with the market fluctuation we are confident the funds are being handled in the best interest of the church.  That being said, we would like to share with you the cost of each service and how the cost compares with the contributions received.  The contributions committee has produced a chart which will be displayed in the vestibule which covers the first half of the year, January through July.  It will show the cost per service and the contributions received from the offerings.  The goal being to bring the contributions more in line with the cost of each service.  This will help alleviate having to tap into the investment funds for operating costs.  Please take a moment to look at the chart and consider helping us reach our goal.

The Healing Garden makeover is well underway and the new fence has enhanced the overall beauty of the garden.  Watch out for the new signs above the entrances that will be done shortly.

Davis Hall‘s clean-up is almost complete.  Alex has been working very hard in the kitchen area and will soon have it up and running again.   Interest in renting Davis Hall by various organizations will generate income which will be used to pay for the upgrades that are being made.

The visit by David Thompson, Christine Morgan and Chris Hood was a huge success not least in part to the many volunteers who gave their time and effort to make it a success.  Thank you to everyone who participated and to those of you who could not, there will be another opportunity in November, 2011.

Come, Make a Joyful Noise!

The call goes out to all who love to sing and would like to contribute their voices to raise the wonderful vibration of the Shrine of the Master as part of the SOM Choir.  No major talent required, just the ability to carry a tune and a willingness to show up and bring your playground voice.  We are a diverse, fun group who will sing typically the first Sunday of the month as well as holidays and other special occasions.  Rehearsals are generally scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on the days we sing.

Please contact Rosemary Erbeck at 941-773-0005 for further information.

Book Review

The Divine Matrix by Gregg Braden

There is a place where all things begin, the place of pure energy that simply “is”. In this quantum incubator for reality, everything is possible. In 1994, Max Planck, the father of quantum theory, shocked the world be saying that this “matrix” is where the birth of stars, the DNA of life, and everything between originates. Recent discoveries reveal dramatic evidence that Planck’s matrix-The Divine Matrix- is real. It is this missing link in our understanding that provides the container for the universe, the bridge between our imagination and our reality, and the mirror in our world for what we create in our beliefs.

In this paradigm-shattering book, Gregg shares what he’s found. Through 20 keys of conscious creation, we’re shown how to translate the miracles of our imagination into what is real in our lives. With east-to-understand science and real-life stories, Gregg shows us that we’re limited only by our beliefs, and what we once believed is about to change!

This book is available for purchase in the vestibule for $14.00

News from the Bamboo Garden
by Rev. Tim Dudley

As metaphysicians we focus on the teachings and demonstrations of the Master Jesus and many of the other Master Teachers that have shared spiritual insight and understanding throughout time. We research, study and honor all spiritual books and recognize their spiritual and holy qualities. Through awareness and logic we recognize that none of these writings can be considered inerrant or have total authority over our individual choices. And none should have complete authority and influence over the continuing development of our culture. They do however; provide valuable glimpses of the intention and guidance behind some of the teachings of the Master Teachers.

When we compare some of the sayings from the Master Jesus and the Master Buddha, we can see that they speak about the same universal truths that guide us through our earth experience. In September our upcoming Sunday morning adult discussion class “Messages from the Masters”, we will be focusing on the wise teachings of these two master teachers. We will be using metaphysical interpretation to discover more about their philosophy and their intuitive inspiration from the spiritual worlds.

There is a wonderful example in these two parallel sayings, which speak about Wisdom. Both Jesus and Buddha focused on the individual, emphasizing that the inner person is more vital that the outer image. They also speak about the importance of looking at our own life, rather than criticizing others. The metaphors of light and dark, sun and rain, the fruitful and the barren common in many of their sayings, describe their insights about our awareness and spiritual progress, as we navigate through the earth experience.

The Master Jesus
The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so that birds of the air come and make their nests in its branches. Matthew 13.31-32

The Master Buddha
Do not underestimate good, thinking it will not affect you. Dripping water can fill a pitcher, drop by drop; one who is wise is filled with good, even if one accumulates it little by little. Dhammapada 9.7

Come and join us as we start our class again in September and expect the unexpected.

Your Help Is Needed!!

Non-profit organizations often have more to do than the employees have time and thus rely on volunteers to help out.  The Shrine of the Master has several tasks to be adopted out and sponsored.  Some of these tasks are as follows:

Librarian – Needed to follow up on overdue books.
Cub Reporters – People are needed to gather news for our monthly newsletter.
Davis Hall Kitchen Coordinator – Needed to help organize and order the kitchen consumable supplies.
Auxiliary Members – To help with dinners, parties and coffee hours.

If you would like to volunteer some time to these tasks or others, please see Board President Kathy Curtin or either of the Pastors.

We have some additional Shrine of the Master shirts available for sale in the office.  They are $15 each and are a great way to spread the name of the church into the community.  Please call the office if you would like to purchase one.
